Code of Conduct

The STAR Collaboration believes that our scientific mission is best achieved by building a culture of inclusion, integrity and cooperation that affords all members the opportunity to reach their full potential. All STAR collaborators commit to a high level of professional behavior, to fostering a harassment and bullying-free environment and to actively countering instances of unprofessional behavior. We pledge to respond to criticism respectfully and will strive to model behaviors that encourage productive debate and disagreement, both within our communities and where we are criticized. STAR collaborators will extend this level of respect and professional discourse to those outside our collaboration and the broader scientific community as well.

Inappropriate actions or statements by collaboration members that are derogatory or defamatory on the basis of identity, including but not limited to: age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, nationality, political affiliation, disability, educational and/or socioeconomic background, neurodiversity, mental or physical health, or any other characteristic protected by law, will not be tolerated. Disruptive or harassing behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. Harassment includes but is not limited to inappropriate or intimidating behavior and language, unwelcome jokes or comments, unwanted touching or attention, offensive images, photography without permission, bullying, and stalking.

As members of the STAR Collaboration we all commit to these precepts and core values.
