We cordially invite you to a special moment in our FIAS Forum series. On 07.12.23, Prof. Dr. Eckhard Elsen, the Scientific Director of FIAS, will introduce himself to the Frankfurt public for the first time with his lecture "Dynamics of Scientific Research in Germany". Prof. Elsen, with extensive experience at DESY and as former Director of Research and Computing at CERN, brings an expertise that provides an exclusive insight into the German and international research landscape. His lecture will scrutinize the dynamics of existing structures by using specific examples to highlight locations, potential, sustainability and the fundamental importance of research.

Der Vortrag:
Die öffentlich geförderte Forschung in Deutschland stützt sich auf mehrere Säulen, deren wichtigste die Universitäten darstellen. Große und langfristige Forschungsprojekte können jedoch nur an größeren Instituten durchgeführt werden, für die in Deutschland hervorragende Beispiele angeführt werden können, die von Max Planck Instituten über Helmholtz-Institute bis hin zur Beteiligung an internationalen Organisationen reichen. Die übergreifende Nutzung der verschiedenen Institutionen führt zu hervorragenden und anerkannten Ergebnissen, die den Vergleich im internationalen Umfeld nicht scheuen müssen.
Gleichzeitig entwickelt sich aktuell weltweit eine Forschungsdynamik, der sich auch die Forschungsförderung stellen muss. Ist die existierende Struktur ausreichend für neue Themen und sind die Institutionen genügend agil? Welches sind die Standorte und was ist das Potenzial? Wie nachhaltig können sie arbeiten? Was ist die Bedeutung der Grundlagenforschung?
Der Vortrag versucht einen Überblick und zeigt die globalen Entwicklungen an konkreten Beispielen auf.
