FIAS Forum: The Immune System in Space and Time
From 3D and 4D Visualization to Therapy

Venue: FIAS Hörsaal
FIAS Fellow Prof. Dr. Martin-Leo Hansmann takes us on an exciting journey into the fascinating world of the human immune system. How does our body detect and fight off pathogens? How do immune cells communicate, move, and interact in real-time within tissues?
Thanks to state-of-the-art laser technologies, advanced imaging techniques, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence, researchers can now observe immunological processes as they happen — in both three and four dimensions. These dynamic visualizations allow for a deeper understanding of immune responses and reveal how the body’s defense mechanisms can be supported or corrected when they go awry.
In his talk, Prof. Hansmann will demonstrate how these innovative methods are opening up new possibilities in diagnostics and therapy, with a special focus on lymph node analysis and modern treatment strategies. Spectacular 3D visualizations and videos will illustrate what until recently remained invisible — bringing the complexity and beauty of the immune system to life.
Join us for an evening that promises fascinating insights into cutting-edge medical research, bridging fundamental science and clinical application.
The lecture will held be in German!

Start of lecture: 18:00
Reception: Small reception following the lecture (pre-registration required)
Location: FIAS Lecture Hall
About FIAS Forum:
The FIAS Forum is back and will present current topics from the natural sciences and the social debate four times a year in a scientific and at the same time understandable way. This enables exciting discussions about the acute challenges in scientific research and their influence on our society.
After the lecture, you will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the speaker and other FIAS scientists at a small reception.
Registration:
Participation in the event is free of charge. However, due to limited capacity for the reception afterwards, we kindly ask you to register in advance.
