Models to address healthcare demand and vaccination needs

Seminar: Multiscale Modelling of Covid-19

M2C Seminar: 18.11.

Venue: online

On November 18th, Jane Heffernan from York University will be the next speaker in our seminar on the multiscale modeling of Covid-19. He will give a talk on "Models to address healthcare demand and vaccination needs".

Time: 18.11.2020 14:00

Speaker: Prof. Jane Heffernan (York University)

Abstract:

COVID-19 continues to burden to globe. Healthcare resource availability is key to tackling the severe mortality and morbidity outcomes that many countries have experienced over consecutive waves of COVID-19 infection. Currently, decision-makers are working to determine vaccination campaigns that will (hopefully) minimize mortality and morbidity in the future of this pandemic. We have developed mathematical models of healthcare resource demand and vaccination programming. The healthcare demand model is used to assess needs within different healthcare settings: COVID-19 assessment clinics, doctor's offices, and hospitals. The vaccination model is used to assess outcomes for particular vaccine programs. In this talk I will provide an overview of these models and their assumptions. The effects of public health programs (social distancing, mask wearing, school closure) on healthcare resource management will be highlighted. The effects of waning immunity on vaccination outcomes will also be discussed.
