The interdisciplinary FIGSS seminar takes place every second Monday during the semester from 12:00-13:00. PhD students of the Graduate School are given the opportunity to present and discuss their research results here. External speakers are also invited from time to time.

Our next "CMMS Talks" event with a talk by Prof. Dr. Jay T. Lennon (Indiana University) will take place on Thursday, 02 November 2023 at 2 p.m. in the FIAS lecture hall.

The advance of computational power has recently enabled in-depth studies of complex systems such as the brain, biological cells and tissues, and cosmic structures. Moreover, deep learning has emerged not only as a tool, but also as a topic of investigation itself. At this school, the participants will learn about forefront numerical techniques in science, and how they can be adapted to the problems and scales under study.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Giersch Foundation, FIAS can present the "FIAS Senior Fellow Laureatus" award for the 5th time. In 2023, the prize goes to Prof. Dr. Thomas Südhof.

We cordially invite you to a special moment in our FIAS Forum series. On 07.12.23, Prof. Dr. Eckhard Elsen, the Scientific Director of FIAS, will introduce himself to the Frankfurt public for the first time with his lecture "Dynamics of Scientific Research in Germany". Prof. Elsen, with extensive experience at DESY and as former Director of Research and Computing at CERN, brings an expertise that provides an exclusive insight into the German and international research landscape. His lecture will scrutinize the dynamics of existing structures by using specific examples to highlight locations, potential, sustainability and the fundamental importance of research.
